Who we are

Plain Works Labs (“we”) runs this website and Plain Works Studio at studio.plainworkslabs.com. We are the controller of the personal data described below. You can reach us at hello@plainworkslabs.com.

What we collect, and why

Analytics (only if you accept)

If you choose Accept in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to see how the site is used: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser, how you arrived, and interactions such as opening the chat, clicking an email link, or joining the shop list. We do not send your name, email address or chat messages to analytics. If you choose Reject, analytics cookies are not set; Google may still receive limited, cookieless signals that do not identify you. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

The contact form

If you write to us we receive your name, email address, optional company, your message, and the IP address the message came from. We use it to reply to you and to deal with your enquiry. Legal basis: taking steps at your request, and our legitimate interest in running the business. We keep it for as long as we need to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up.

The shop list

If you ask to be told when something is ready, we receive your email address and the items you chose. We use it to email you about those items and to understand how much interest there is in each, which helps us decide what to make. We do not sell it or add you to any other list. Legal basis: your consent. To be removed, email us and we will delete it.

The chat assistant (Galileo)

When you use the chat, your recent messages are sent to our server and passed on to an AI model provider, through OpenRouter, to write a reply. Please do not put personal or sensitive information in the chat. We do not deliberately store chat transcripts, and chat text is not sent to analytics. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering visitors’ questions.

Technical data

Our hosting records standard server logs (such as IP address, pages requested, and time) and we use IP addresses to limit abuse such as spam on forms. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure.

Cookies and browser storage

Without your consent, the site stores two small items in your browser: your cookie choice and your day/night theme. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics also sets its own cookies. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer. We do not use advertising cookies.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers to run the site: Google (Analytics, and Google Cloud for hosting and logs), our email provider for receiving form messages, and OpenRouter with the AI model providers behind it for the chat. They process data on our behalf or under their own terms. We do not sell personal data.

Transfers outside the UK

Some of these providers process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards they offer, such as the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to access, correct, delete or restrict your data, object to how we use it, ask for a copy in a portable form, and withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@plainworkslabs.com and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If we change how we use data we will update this page and its date. This policy was last updated on 12 October 2026.
